Medical advice ‘key’ as county game resumes
RISK ASSESSMENTS FOR LOCKDOWN
OFFICIALS at the Fischer County Ground say they will be guided by medical advice as the county season gets under way.
The club issued a statement following the announcement all 18 first-class counties have agreed to participate in the same red and white-ball competitions during this summer’s shortened men’s season.
It said: “Leicestershire County Cricket Club is keen to see the return of cricket in both the red-ball and white-ball format.
“The club considers player and staff safety to be of paramount importance and, as a consequence, considering the local Leicester lockdown situation, it will continue to undertake the necessary risk assessments and be guided at all times by medical advice.”
The season will commence with a four-day competition which will enable all 18 counties to compete for the Bob Willis Trophy. This will be followed by a shortened Vitality Blast competition, starting on August 27.
England selectors, meanwhile have named a 24-strong training group who will go into camp at the Ageas Bowl on Thursday.
They will be hoping for selection for the Royal London Series against
Ireland starting on July 30. The group will live, prepare and train on-site at the Ageas Bowl.
Two intra-group warm-up matches will take place on July 21 and 24.
A final England squad for the Ireland series, plus a number of reserves, will be named at a later date.
National selector Ed Smith, said: “Even with several multi-format players unavailable for the Ireland ODIs due to their Test commitments, there is real depth to England’s white ball playing talent.
“Everyone at England cricket would like to thank all the county coaches and support staff who have helped these players in the lead-up to the behind-closed-doors camp.
“We now look forward to hosting Ireland and continuing to develop our white ball strength in depth.”
