A SERVICE that has been helping people with chores and tasks during lockdown has been extended.

Since NHS Volunteer Responders launched in March, volunteers have completed 400,000 tasks, from driving people to hospital and delivering food and medication to making telephone “check in and chat” calls.

A spokesman said: “Following the news that lockdown restrictions in

Leicester and surrounding areas are to be extended, we wanted to highlight that support from the NHS Volunteer Responders continues to be available.

“The service was recently extended to include anyone who is self-isolating because they’ve been diagnosed with Covid-19 or have symptoms, as well as those who have been told to self-isolate by the Test and Trace service.”

The NHS Volunteer Responders programme is open to those who who choose to continue to stay at home, or choose to avoid busier public spaces such as supermarkets and pharmacies.

The service and its helpers are also there to support people with caring responsibilities; those selfisolating because they’ve been diagnosed with coronavirus or have symptoms; people who have been instructed to self-isolate by the Test and Trace service, because they’ve been near an infected person; are self-isolating ahead of planned hospital care or are frontline health and care workers who need an extra help.

To request volunteer support, people can call 0808 196 3646 (8am to 8pm).
