LEICESTER City defender Caglar Soyuncu has apologised for being sent off in Sunday’s 4-1 defeat at AFC Bournemouth.

City were well-beaten after a torrid second half display on the south coast, with their misery further compounded by a red card for Turkish centre-half Soyuncu.

After Dominic Solanke scored the first of his two goals to put Bournemouth ahead, Soyuncu lashed out at Callum Wilson when he went to retrieve the ball.

Soyuncu was duly sent off by referee Stuart Attwell and City went on to concede two more goals, completing an amazing turnaround for the Cherries after Jamie Vardy’s first half opener.

Soyuncu will now miss the last three games of the season with City’s hopes of finishing in the top four hanging by a thread.

Afterwards, the Turkish international sent a message to City fans.

“Every moment I put this jersey on, I try to be aware of my responsibilities on the pitch,” Soyuncu wrote on social media.

“I know I made all of you and myself upset with an instant mistake.

“More important, to be seen as a bad example is not a type of experience that I want to have.

“My team-mates had to play without me due to my bad which I do not comprehend why I did that when I have a clear mind.

“My sincere apologies to all of my teammates and fans.”
