MAYOR HAILS LATEST REGENERATION WORK AT CITY’S WATERSIDE
A GROUND-BREAKING ceremony has taken place on a scheme to build more than 80 homes in the city.
The mayor, Sir Peter Soulsby, joined representatives from Lovell Partnerships and Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) as work began on the £10 million design and build project on Abbey Meadows Road.
Lovell, a partnerships developer, will be working with NCHA and GS Residential to bring 82 two, three and four-bedroom homes to the city.
It says the first homes are hoped to be completed by January.
Sir Peter said: “I’m very pleased to welcome this development at Abbey Meadows, where it will complement the extensive regeneration work we are doing along Leicester’s waterside, as well as providing muchneeded affordable homes and helping to encourage further investment in the area.”
Chris Timmins, East Midlands area director at Lovell, said: “This project is our first in Leicester since 2011 and plays in integral part in our
WORK BEGINS: Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby with Allan Fisher, of NCHA, left, and Chris Timmins, of Lovell Midlands growth plans across the East Midlands, while reducing the shortage of affordable homes across the region and meeting the demands of local communities.”
Lovell is part of Morgan Sindall Group plc, a UK construction and regeneration group.
This new partnership with NCHA is the first milestone for Lovell’s extensive growth plans into the East Midlands.
As a result, this business is already in discussions with other housing associations and land owners in the region.
Allan Fisher, director of Development and Assets at NCHA, said: “The pandemic has been the cause of many project delays, including this new development for Leicester.
“It’s great that building work can now begin, and we’re looking forward to the completion of these new affordable homes for people in the city.
“Our thanks go to our partners Lovell and GS Residential, for their continued dedication to the project, despite the recent setbacks.”
