Tigers select a squad full of experience and power for European Challenge Cup clash with Castres

The Leicester City boss has confirmed the club are in negotiatio­ns with Roma over a deal for the Turkish winger, who he describes as “clearly a talented player”.

It’s understood a deal has already been agreed – a loan with a view to buy – with City medical staff, including club doctor Ian Patchett and senior physiother­apist Simon Murphy, filmed in Rome on Thursday, with the 23-year-old undergoing a medical.

While Rodgers was reluctant to talk about the player directly, he did clarify what he wanted in a new wide-man, with technical ability in tight spaces the key attribute, as the club already possess pace and power in their attacking ranks.

“He’s a very good player, I know that,” Rodgers said of Under during his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s clash with Burnley (7pm kick-off).

“I think there’s been negotiatio­ns between the clubs, so we’re hopeful we can get something there.

“I just said at the end of last season, we needed a different type of attacking player, or players, to come in and support at the top end of the field. Having watched him play over the last number of years for Roma and for Turkey, he’s clearly a talented player.

“I’ll speak more about the individual if we complete a deal, but it’s clear that at the top end of the field, we have pace and power, but I felt we also need a bit more football in there as well.

“That was key in terms of our recruitmen­t, looking for someone who can beat someone in a one v one, who excites supporters watching, who excites the team.

“With defences that are organised, you need different types of qualities to break that down.
