BOROUGH COUNCIL
AS infection rates continue to rise in the borough, the council implemented actions designed to restrict the spread of the virus across the borough.
The government has reviewed these actions and agrees with their implementation.
They will pass these into legislation enabling enforcement from Tuesday, September 22,
2020.
The council is confident that in the majority of cases residents will play their part in reducing community transmission as they have done throughout the pandemic.
However, for the small minority that choose to ignore the advice, the council will take enforcement action where appropriate.
The local infection rate is the second highest in the country with a rate of over 145 cases per 100,000, almost a 50 per cent increase on the rate at the beginning of the week. The national average stands at around 33 per 100,000. In addition, our positive test rate is over 6 per cent – double the national average.
This outbreak is across all communities and age groups and not down to a single cause, but the common link in all of this is people. These restrictions, along with the closure of our parks, are to try to assist in the prevention of the community spread of the virus which will only be achieved with people changing their behaviours.
The restrictions in the borough are as follows:
■■You cannot socialise with other people outside of their own households or support bubble in private homes and gardens from September 22.
■■You cannot use the council’s parks between the hours of 5pm and 7am.
Although the restrictions become enforceable by law on September 22, the restrictions relating to our parks came into force on Thursday, September 17.
However, we strongly recommend that the residents follow these guidelines now to help stem the spread of the virus.
