Children from two primary schools are told to isolate

-

AN ENTIRE year group at a village primary school has been sent home for 14 days isolation after a teacher came down with coronavirus.

The staff member at Kirby Muxloe Primary School taught Year 1 pupils and they have all be told to stay off for the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, a number of children and staff have been asked to stay away from Fosse Primary, in Leicester, until the end of the month.

Kirby Muxloe head teacher Elliot Howles said: “The small number of children who have been in direct, prolonged contact with the confirmed case will have received a separate letter and will be staying at home for 14 days.

“The school remains open and your child should continue to attend if they remain well and haven’t received a separate letter.

“We have at all times consulted with the specialists and we feel that the action taken is proportionate and appropriate.”

A parent, who said she was worried for her child – who does not have to isolate said: “The school should shut as a whole for 14 days while a deep clean is conducted.

“Some children display no symptoms and carry the germs home and then pass them on, which is why we are having such problems.

“The government is contradicting itself when a class of 30 children and a teacher are able to sit in a class but it’s not safe to have more than six people in a garden.”

Fosse head teacher Richard Stone told parents Public Health England had confirmed “a single, confirmed case of COVID-19 within the school”.

Children in Years 3 and 4 are affected – about 120 children, according to a parent.

Mr Stone said: “We are awaiting guidance on the length of time for self-isolating but it is likely children will be able to return on September 29, based on the last date the affected person was in school.”

The parent told the Leicester Mercury: “It’s a very small school, so it must have been hard to maintain social distancing.

“I have utmost respect for the head. He has done a sterling job.”
