Anderson wins scratch honours

FORMER county first team captain Martin Anderson shot a two-under-par 69 to win the scratch award in a Stableford singles tournament at Kibworth GC, his home course.

Scott Cornwall (7) on 40 pts led division one ahead of Leicester Mercury Cup winner Harvey Fitzpatric­k (3) on 39 pts, with David Chambers (10) third on 37 pts.

Russell Kennedy (12) on 37 pts led division 2 on countback from Melvin Smith (14). Trish Formoy (13) was third on 36 pts.

Matt O’Brien (17) on 35 pts topped division 3 from two on 34 – Jag Sohota (17) and Oscar Moreno (18).

Simon Mayers (21) on 40 pts headed division 4 from two on 36 – John Quilter (22) and Carol Frith (26).

Peter Horsley (12) on 39 pts led division 1 of another Stableford singles after a tie, resolved on local rule, with Denis Cogan (15). Robert Whittingto­n (17) was third on 37 pts.

Julie Houlichan (23) on 35 pts headed division 2.

Jamie Mcdonald (9) on 42 pts won a men’s Stableford in division 1 ahead of Gary Hopkins (11) 40. David Pochin (19) won the 3-way tie in division 2 from Rob Dexter (23) and Robin Hall (19).

Sonja Reid (19) on 35 pts led the ladies’ Silver division from Jenny Woodland (14) 29, and bronze winner was Teresa Fitpatrick (24) on 39 pts.

■■The opening meeting of the new 2020/21 county golf Alliance season was a better ball Stableford held at Whetstone GC, where the top profession­al was Craig Shave (Cosby) with 37 pts.

Shave was two points clear of Michael Reed (Glen Gorse), with county PGA secretary Bob Larratt (Kibworth) on 34 pts and Neil Parker (Humberston­e Heights) on 33 pts.

Craig Shave and his father Gary, a member of the host club, scored 43 pts to finish first in the pro/am awards. But the overall winners were Scraptoft amateurs Ken Bell and Paul Lowe on 46 pts, ahead of Michael Reed and amateur Cyril Wood (Glen Gorse), 43 pts, on local rule from Larratt and John Bennett (Scraptoft).
