Ram raiders strike at shop
SUPERDRUG IS TARGETED BY THIEVES
A SUPERDRUG store has been targeted by ram raiders.
The store was taped off throughout yesterday morning, as forensic officers investigated.
The metal shutters had been pulled across the storefront the night before to secure the site and the products inside.
However, it appeared as though a vehicle had been used to ram the front of the Wigston store on Tuesday night.
A hole had been punched through the left side of the shutters and the glass windows behind it had been completely shattered.
Police confirmed officers were called to the scene in Bell Street at 11pm.
A spokeswoman said the force had received reports a grey Nissan Almera had driven into the front of the Superdrug store.
According to the police, raiders entered the premises and stole items before leaving in the car.
The spokeswoman said: “Detectives are in the early stages of their inquiries and the premises has been cordoned off to allow officers to examine the area.
“If anyone witnessed the incident and hasn’t yet spoken to officers they are encouraged to do so.”
No other businesses in the area were damaged, including a Santander bank only metres away from the affected Superdrug shop.
An employee of Yum Yum Sweet Co, next door to Superdrug, said: “They didn’t touch anything of ours, thank God.
“It’s crazy what people will do for some eye make-up.”
Police have not confirmed what was stolen.
Superdrug was also contacted for a statement but had not been in touch at the time of publication.
Anyone with information on the incident should contact the force on 101.
