HAIR ONE MINUTE AND GONE THE NEXT - ALL FOR A GOOD CAUSE

ALICE HELPING TWO CHARITIES BY HAVING LONG LOCKS SHORN

- By STAFF REPORTER

A KIND-hearted young girl has donated her hair and raised over £900 for the life-saving local air ambulance.

Alice Green, eight, had been growing her hair for a number of years and being a fan of Operation Ouch on CBBC, she had seen children who have lost theirs while undergoing chemotherapy.

Wanting to help in any way she could, Alice made the big decision to cut her long locks and donate the 14 inches of hair to The Little Princess Trust, and in the process, raise vital funds to keep the Derbyshire, Leicestershire, and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) flying.

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs to children and young people with hair loss.

“I was very nervous before my haircut, I’ve never had it cut this short before, but I wanted to donate as much as possible to The Little Princess Trust,” said Alice.

The Humberstone youngster completed her challenge at the beginning of the month and has smashed her fund-raising target – she now has her sights set to raise as much as possible to go towards the cost of a life-saving mission.

Alice added: “I am really happy that people have been so generous and helped me to raise so much money for the air ambulance – I was aiming for £300 so I am amazed!”

Proud mum and dad Sue and Alasdair said: “Alice wanted to support the air ambulance because of the amazing work they do, helping people when they are most in need.

“This whole process has been her idea, and we are immensely proud.”

Vicky Evans, of the DLRAA, said: “We are so proud of Alice for taking on such a brave challenge. She has reached an incredible £900 so far and we are so grateful for her support as the charity receives no government funding and relies entirely on donations to raise the £1,700 needed for each mission.

“Alice is an absolute superstar and our hero for taking on such a challenge to raise vital funds, and we hope that her incredible story will inspire others to take on their own personal challenge for DLRAA.”

Alice is leaving her JustGiving page open until the end of the month for anyone wishing to still donate.
