Two held over ram-raid

ARRESTS AFTER THEFT FROM SUPERDRUG STORE

TWO men have been arrested in connection with a ram-raid attack on Superdrug in Wigston last week.

The men, aged 20 and 41, have been questioned on suspicion of driving a Nissan Almera into the front of the Bell Street shop before reaching through the broken window to grab bottles of perfume and aftershave.

An area around the shop was taped off from 11am on Tuesday as police examined the scene.

The men are also being quizzed about a number of other matters, including alleged cannabis cultivatio­n and burglary, police said.

The force said: “No-one was in the store at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported.

“A 41-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, both of Leicester, were arrested in connection with the incident.

“Both men were also further arrested on suspicion of a number of other offences in relation to separate matters.

“These were on suspicion of burglary in connection with an incident in Hebden Close, Leicester, on September 21, on suspicion of theft

from a vehicle in connection with an incident in Trenant Road, Leicester, on September 22 and on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, namely a knife, on September 23 and on suspicion of cultivatio­n of cannabis on September 23.

“The men have since been released on police bail.

“Inquiries remain ongoing and anyone with any informatio­n in relation to the incident in Bell Street, Wigston, who has not yet spoken to police is urged to make contact.”

Anyone who has any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at the time is also being asked to also check this and contact police.
