Burglar is jailed after raid CCTV led police to his door
A BURGLAR has been locked up after CCTV evidence from one of his raids led police to his door.
Luke Whiteman burgled a property in Melton in July, helping himself to a quantity of make-up.
Two days later, he tried to raid a second property in the town but on this occasion was caught on CCTV.
Whiteman, of Bramley Close, Melton, appeared at Leicester Crown Court last week and pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary and a further charge of attempted burglary.
Leicestershire Police released details of the case.
In a statement, the force said: “At around 11.40pm on Wednesday, July 29, Whiteman gained entry via a first floor window to premises in King Street, Melton Mowbray.
“Once inside the building he smashed a lock to one of the rooms and stole a quantity of make-up.
“On Saturday, August 1, he was caught on CCTV attempting to gain access to an address in Palmerston Road, Melton.
“An occupant of the property, disturbed by their dog barking, checked their CCTV and spotted Whiteman on the footage.
“Following inquiries carried out into both reports, officers arrested Whiteman on Friday, August 7.”
Detective Constable Amanda Paddock, who led the investigation, said: “The outcome of this case should serve as a warning to anyone intent on committing similar offences that we take all reports of burglary seriously.
“We will investigate thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice.”
Whiteman was sentenced to 30 months in prison.
