Looking at the big picture thanks to society’s show
BEE-LIEVED to be Leicester’s first 3D virtual reality public photography exhibition, the Leicester Forest Photographic Society exhibition is open online.
Visitors can explore the rooms independently or be guided around the exhibition which includes over 70 high quality prints from members of the Society until October 31.
The group includes photographers working to the very highest standards at national and international levels. Earlier this year, the club won the Midland regional PAGB photographic print final.
The interests of the individual photographers are varied and it is hoped this makes for an exhibition that will interest everyone.
“We pride ourselves in having a diverse membership of all abilities who benefit greatly from the wide range of activities we organise,” said member Robb Doyle.
“We have a comprehensive programme of lectures and competitions together with a well-equipped studio group. We also run workshops to help members improve their photographic techniques and group outings for members to put it all into practice. We are open to all with an interest in photography.”
The Mercury will be featuring some of the work in our Pic of the Day and today’s work of art is Bumblebee Head, by Andrzej S Jablonski.
Explaining his photograph, he said: “Following lockdown, I decided to explore Swithland Woods as a good local hunting ground for fungi, on the lookout for new specimens which I try and record each year.
“Sifting among the leaf litter I came across this recently expired bubble-bee covered in dirt, but its head still in remarkably good condition.
“I decided it would make a suitable subject for a staged macro photography session, something I had been experimenting with at home during lockdown. Having already taken shots of a bumble-bee earlier in the year, in this instance I decided to concentrate on just the front of the head and the surrounding golden hairs reminiscent of a lion’s mane.
“Using the technique of focus stacking, this photograph comprises of 30 individual shots combined into the final image.”
Andrzej added: “I enjoy all aspects of photography from traditional film to digital work, happy to undertake any new project, so I take every opportunity to be out and about with my camera.”
The group normally meets on Monday and Thursday evenings at the Braunstone Civic Centre but for the foreseeable future meetings are via Zoom.
Potential new members are welcome to join two meetings for free to sample the evenings. The subscription for full online membership is just £30 per year. For more information, contact:
