FINANCIAL FEARS THANKS TO COVID

WE ARE counting the cost of Covid-19, with nearly half of us worried about everyday finances, a report has found.

Overall, 31% of people said they may struggle to keep on top of their bills in the future.

This rises to 38% for those aged 18 to 34 and 41% for those aged 35 to 44.

Already 12% have fallen behind on their mobile phone repayments, 9% on water bills and 8% on mortgages or rent.

The research from Indesser, a joint debt management venture between the Cabinet Office and TDX Group, also found that while 40% of people overall had three months of expenses saved up, this drops to 32% for those aged 18 to 34.

ANOTHER REASON TO SHOP LOCAL

SHOPPERS can be rewarded for supporting their local stores by downloading the My VIP Card app, which has just gone national.

The discount scheme gives shoppers access to more than 4,500 rewards and discounts in their community and is helping to boost sales and save businesses as it drives customers on to high streets.

My VIP Card founder Maddy Alexander-Grout, said: “I created it to help the local high street and give back to the community and our unique membership scheme does this.

“It supports local businesses by raising awareness and encourages shoppers to benefit from local discounts.”

SAVERS, THIS WILL BE OF INTEREST

NATWEST has launched a new regular savings account, paying an impressive 3%.

It is designed to help get people who have little or no savings into the habit of putting a bit away regularly.

You can save from £1 to £50 a month and it allows withdrawals.

There is a catch, as you need to have a Natwest current account to access the saver and have to set up a standing order to pay in each month.
