A few things for the fans to ponder

-

LEICESTER City will this week discover who they face in their fifth European campaign as the group stage draw for the Europa League takes place.

When is the draw?

The group stage draw takes place at noon tomorrow at Uefa’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. The 48 sides in the draw have not yet been confirmed, with the final qualifying round taking place tonight.

Which pot will City be in?

Having racked up a few coefficient points during their run to the Champions League quarter-finals in 2016-17, City cannot be in Pot 4.

But while a Pot 1 berth is not impossible, it is extremely likely

City will be in Pot 2 or Pot 3. As things stand, City need three upsets, where teams with lower coefficients beat those with higher coefficients, in the play-off round to earn a spot in Pot 2.

City will be drawn against one side from each of the other Pots, although they cannot draw another English side in the group stage.

Who could City face?

Heading into the final round of qualifying, there are so far 24 teams who have secured places.

There are a handful of former City players within the ranks of those teams, with midfielder Vicente Iborra at Villarreal, titlewinning right-back Ritchie De Laet at Antwerp, striker Andrej Kramaric at Hoffenheim, and former loan defender Aleksandar Dragovic at Leverkusen.

The final 24 teams are decided by the final rounds of qualifying in both the Champions League and Europa League.

The losers of the Champions League play-off round second legs will enter the Europa League group stage. These matches take place on Wednesday night.

The winners from the Europa League play-off round, one-legged ties that take place on Thursday, will also reach the group stage.

When will City be in action?

The group stage matches come thick and fast to ensure they are all sorted by Christmas.

The first three games are played in back-to-back weeks, on October 22, October 29 and November 5. The final three group games are also played in quick succession, on November 26, December 3, and December 10. If City qualify from their group, their knockout rounds will take place between February and May. The final is on Wednesday, May 26.
