As one window slams shut, we look at City’s business

It was a quieter international transfer deadline day than many City fans will have wanted. It’s probably what they expected though, with Brendan Rodgers making it clear he thought a late deal was unlikely. There is still, of course, the option of domestic

HOW WOULD YOU RATE THE CLUB’S TRANSFER BUSINESS SO FAR OUT OF 10?

8/10. Simply, the squad is stronger than it was two months ago. Ben Chilwell may have left as City made their annual sale of a high-profile name but, for many, that was less of a blow than losing one of the club’s other talents such as Ricardo Pereira, Wilfred Ndidi, James Maddison or Caglar Soyuncu.

In Timothy Castagne, they have what looks like an excellent replacement, while the signings of Cengiz Under and Wesley Fofana strengthened areas that have long needed reinforcements, all while keeping the net spend to a minimum.

Having said that, a forward-thinking midfielder would have been nice, though.

WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF BUSINESS IN THE WINDOW SO FAR?

BASED on his early performances, the temptation is to say signing Castagne for £18 million.

There has been no need for patience with the Belgian, who has started incredibly brightly, showing he possesses the technical and physical abilities to be a big hit in the Premier League.

But, in the long-term, Fofana may be considered the best deal. He is only at the very start of his career, but he is predicted to be one of the next great centre-backs in world football.

He’s a 19-year-old who has played just 30 senior games, and yet Brendan Rodgers believes £32 million is a bargain.

WHAT’S THE ONE DEAL WE COULD REGRET NOT GETTING DONE? top-level strikers, never mind convince them to sit on the bench and wait for Vardy to become unavailable. Not signing an advanced midfielder seems to be the biggest oversight.

City usually play with two forward-thinking players in the centre of the park and have just three, in James Maddison, Youri Tielemans, and Dennis Praet to get them through a very busy season.
