PARKING charges are changing at Bradgate Park.

The trust that runs the park is introducing early bird and late afternoon rates to help spread visitor attendance, in a bid to improve traffic congestion in Newtown Linford.

Parking machines are expected to be updated to allow cashless payments.

A spokesman said: “The trust has recently carried out a thorough review of parking arrangements and is delighted to announce improvements which look to resolve recent concerns expressed by visitors and residents.

“We have also identified that a number of people only wish to visit for up to three hours, so we are introducing a rate for this length of stay.

“We are working hard to find contactless solutions and the intention is to use a pay-by-phone app which will be contactless and, subject to mobile signal, usable at all of our car parks.”

The new rates for Newtown Linford and Hallgates car parks will be:

■ Early bird up to 9am – £1

■ three-hour time slot – £3

■ Full day rate – £4.50

■ After 4pm – £2

Weekend tariffs add £1 to the early bird, three-hour and full-day rate and the after 4pm stays the same.

Hunts Hill will be the same except £2 for up to three hours and £3 full day.

Swithland Woods will be £1 for an early bird during the week and £2 at all other times.

Nick Rushton, chairman of Bradgate Park Trust, said: “As trustees, we are committed to improving the experience for both visitors and residents.

“We will also be looking at more farreaching opportunities to extend overflow car parks and maximising spaces within existing car parks.”

A spokeswoman said the trust hoped the new charges would be available before the end of the year.

“We are waiting on our software supplier providing an update to the car park machines to introduce the new rates, but expect these to be available from December,” she said.

“We would direct visitors to our website for season tickets which provide good value for regular attendance. Season ticket prices will increase from December 1.”

The car parks are open from 8am until dusk every day.
