Action needed at blackspot
MP JOINS CALLS FORSUBHEAD 20PT IN MEASURES TO SLOWHERE XXXX XXXX DOWN TRAFFIC
POLITICIANS are calling for work to be carried out on a roundabout which has seen a series of recent collisions.
Alberto Costa, MP for South Leicestershire, and local councillors say there is an urgent need for improvements to the Foxhunter roundabout in Enderby.
Mr Costa and councillors have shared their concerns in a meeting with Leicestershire County Council this week.
He has previously urged the authority to consider installing a traffic signal camera or a speed camera at the site.
Mr Costa said: “I know the county council has made improvements to the Foxhunter roundabout in previous years.
“However, the recent spate of accidents at this junction is simply unacceptable.
“Constituents in Enderby are understandably concerned about the safety of the roundabout and it is quite clear that further measures are needed to slow traffic down here and reduce the number of collisions before someone becomes seriously injured.
“One of the more recent accidents at the roundabout, in which a car ended up flipped on its roof in one of my constituent’s gardens, only serves to underline the importance of improving the safety measures here in order to avoid serious or even fatal injury.
“Improvements in traffic signals are welcome of course, but clearly further and more substantive action is required, and I will be asking both the County Council and Leicestershire Police to look into undertaking this”.
Councillor Louise Richardson, who represents the area on the county council, said: “Many residents in Enderby are deeply worried about the number of accidents at the
Foxhunter Roundabout in recent months.
“I’ve been working alongside Alberto and Cheryl Cashmore, my fellow district councillor in Enderby, on this issue and it is important that we find a solution to address residents’ concerns and improve safety for all using the junction.”
