APPEAL FOR WITNESSES AFTER CRASH AT LIGHTS
A MOTORCYCLIST is fighting for his life in hospital after being injured in a collision with a HGV in Leicester.
The man, in his 30s, was injured after his machine was in a collision with a lorry on London Road in Stoneygate, at about 12.40pm on Saturday.
The biker was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre, in Nottingham, by East Midlands Ambulance Service.
The collision happened at the traffic light junction with Stoughton Road and Knighton Road, leaving the road closed for several hours and traffic tailing back. The driver of the lorry was not hurt.
London Road was finally reopened at 7.47pm on Saturday after a specialist police crash investigation team carried out a detailed examination of the scene.
A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said: “A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a collision with a lorry in London Road, Leicester, (Saturday, October 10).
“Police were called to the incident, near the junction with Knighton Road and Stoughton Road, at 12.42pm. “The motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham with serious injuries. He remains in hospital where his condition is described as critical.
“No other injuries have been reported.
“Road closures were in place in the area while emergency services were at the scene.”
Detective Constable John Borlase has appealed for help from the public.
“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area and who witnessed the incident or who saw either of the vehicles beforehand to make contact with us,” he said.
“Anyone who has any dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident should also check this and make contact with us if you have not already done so.”
