Secondary school confirms pupil tests positive

-

A SECONDARY school in Leicester has said one of its pupils has tested positive for coronavirus.

Sara Fletcher, the principal at Babington Academy in Beaumont Leys, wrote to the parents and carers of the pupils on Friday.

In the letter she said: “We have been advised by a parent that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school.

“We know that you may find this concerning but are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with the Leicester City Council Public Health team and Public Health England.

“This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child.

“Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (Covid-19) will be a mild illness. The children who have been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed case will have received an individual letter and will be staying at home for 14 days.

“The school remains open and your child should continue to attend if they remain well.”

More than 360 coronavirus cases have now been reported in schools across schools in Leicester and Leicestershire.

On Thursday, education bosses released the latest statistics of the number of infections within schools since classes resumed after lockdown at the end of August and early last month.

Leicester City Council has revealed 135 children and 71 teachers and other staff have been infected and have had to selfisolate.

The cases have been spread over 46 schools of the city’s 122 schools.

In the Leicestershire County Council area, 91 students have tested positive for the coronavirus along with a total of 66 staff members. This is in more than 75 schools.
