Wales star Rodon ‘on City radar’

-

LEICESTER City have joined Tottenham in the race to sign Swansea centre back Joe Rodon, pictured, according to reports.

The highly-rated defender was the subject of a late deadline day bid from Spurs, who are understood to still be keen on the 22-year-old.

They offered £7million plus add-ons but the Championship club are reported to be looking for a fee closer to the £20million mark.

With the domestic transfer window not closing until Friday, a deal can still be arranged in the coming days and now the Foxes are preparing a bid for the Wales international, according to The Sun.

The report claims that Brendan Rodgers would actually prefer to sign Rodon in January or next summer, but the defender himself is keen to play in the Premier League as soon as possible.

Leicester are keen also to allow summer signing Wesley Fofana time to settle in at the King Power before potentially bringing in another defender.

Using Ben Godfrey’s £20 million move from Norwich to Everton this summer as a barometer, the Swans feel as though they are not being overly-demanding by setting a similar asking price for one of their prized assets.

The centre back is a product of the Swansea academy and broke into the first-team in 2018.

He has since made 49 appearances in all competitions for the Swans.

Rodon started in Wales’ 3-0 defeat to England in a friendly at Wembley on Thursday and again in yesterday’s 0-0 draw against Republic of Ireland in their UEFA Nations League clash.
