Under wants to turn season loan deal into permanent transfer
TURKISH STAR KEEN TO WIN STARTING SPOT
CENGIZ Under has only been a Leicester City player for a few weeks – but he’s already hoping his loan move becomes permanent.
The Turkish winger arrived at the King Power Stadium from Roma this summer on a season-long deal.
He made his debut in the shock 3-0 home defeat to West Ham as a second half substitute, and hopes it is the first of many appearances in blue, with the 23-year-old already expressing his desire to stay for more than a season.
“One of my goals has always been to play in the Premier League,” he said ahead of Turkey’s Uefa Nations League clash with Serbia tonight.
“I am where I dreamt to be now I’m at Leicester City.
“Hopefully I will be a permanent player in the Premier League.
“In my first game at City, I entered the game late because it was my debut.
“I hope I will reach starting 11 form in a short time and be more ready when I come to the national team.”
Under has impressed as a second half substitute in both of Turkey’s international fixtures so far this past week.
He helped to create an injurytime equaliser in a 3-3 draw with Germany, before twice going close in a momentum-swinging display in a 1-1 draw with Russia. Under is keen to put in the good performances to dispel the suggestion his ability has been affected by injury.
He missed the start of the last campaign with Roma and then only featured in three of their 12 Serie A matches after the restart, finishing with three goals and no assists.
“Ever yone talks about my previous performance, but I did not have a bad performance after the injuries,” he said.
“I played consistently before the pandemic. I did not play afterwards. I did not play bad.
“We have a tough match ahead (against Serbia). We want to win the match. We think we are better. “I entered the game later in the Russia match. I am happy to contribute for my team-mates.
“I am always ready, waiting to play. Whenever I get the chance to perform, I will do my best.”
