EXAMINATION OF SCENE POINTS TO ARSON ATTACK
A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of arson after firefighters rescued a person from a burning house.
The rescued man was helped from the property in Leicester Road, Countesthorpe, and taken to hospital on Tuesday night.
Police arrested a 40-year-old man from Leicester at the scene of the blaze.
The rescued man was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary but later discharged.
A police spokeswoman said: “Police were called at 8.34pm by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, reporting their attendance to a fire at an address on Leicester Road in Countesthorpe.
“Officers attended the scene along with colleagues from East Midlands Ambulance Service and a man was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary as a precaution – he has since been discharged.

Leicester Road was closed between the junctions of Jubilee Road and Hospital Lane while emergency services dealt with the incident, and reopened shortly after midnight.
A fire and rescue service spokeswoman said the property was “well alight” when crews arrived.
“Crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire,” she said.
“There was a fire investigation which concluded that the blaze was started deliberately.
“A bedroom and hallway were destroyed by fire. The rest of the property was heavily smoke damaged.”
Two fire crews from Wigston and one from Southern and one from Central attended the blaze.
