A BUS company has updated its ticketing app following problems which left one city customer having to pay twice.

The passenger, who is from Stoneygate but asked not to be named, bought a four-week season ticket using the Arriva app on September 22 for £54.

However, on October 7 the app displayed that the ticket was invalid because it had expired – two weeks before it should have done.

The woman tried to contact Arriva but only got through to an automated response, which stated there was an issue with the app.

She then deleted and reinstalled the app, hoping that it was just a glitch, but after going through this process the ticket then said that it was “active on another device”.

Arriva confirmed that they had experienced an issue with the app.

A spokesman said: “We are aware that some of our customers have experienced technical issues with the Arriva Bus UK app and, as such, we have launched an app update to resolve the issues.

“We are encouraging our customers to update the app with the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.

“We apologise to any customer who has been experiencing technical issues with the app and thank them for their patience and cooperation at this time.”

The spokesman also confirmed that if a customer deletes and reinstalls the app, rather than updating it, it registers as a new device and that is why it shows tickets as being “active on another device”.

He said the app also has enhanced security features to help prevent tickets being used on multiple devices fraudulently.

Anyone experiencing an issue should contact customer services on 0344 800 4411.
