Red Peugeot clues to two incidents in town
DETECTIVES investigating two attempted robberies want to track down the owner of a red Peugeot seen at the locations of both crimes.
The car is believed to have been involved in the two incidents, which were reported in Melton on Wednesday night.
A teenager was punched in the face in one of the attacks, and a woman targeted for her handbag in a supermarket car park in the second.
Police said the two crimes happened within half-an-hour at opposite ends of the town.
A spokesperson for the force said: “The first happened at around 10pm outside a pub in Welby Lane. The victim, an 18-year-old man, was sitting on a wall when a small red Peugeot hatchback pulled into the pub car park.
“Two people got out and approached him. One of them asked the victim for something – he could not make out what was said – and then punched him in the face.
“The second incident happened in Thorpe Road at 10.25pm. The victim, a woman in her 30s, was walking to a supermarket staff car park when she was approached by two people who tried to snatch her handbag.
“However, they were unsuccessful and ran to a small red Peugeot hatchback and drove off. The victim was not injured during the incident.”
Detective Constable Samantha Bates would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incidents, or was in the either area and saw the red hatchback.
