Delight as park retains its Green Flag status

-

A PARK was lit up green this week to celebrate it retaining its Green Flag award for the second year.

Green Flag status is reserved for parks and green spaces that set a high standard and are appropriately managed to meet the needs of the communities they serve.

North West Leicestershire District Council manages Coalville Park and works alongside the Friends of Coalville Park community group to develop future plans and ideas for the space.

As well as its play equipment, skate park, outdoor gym, 400m running track and tennis courts, the park has two dedicated gardens.

To retain the Green Flag status, the council had to prove the park is a welcoming space; healthy, safe and secure; well-maintained and clean; environmentally friendly; pays attention to biodiversity, landscape and heritage; has community involvement and has a suitable management plan.

Councillor Andrew Woodman, community services lead, said: “Thanks to the brilliant work of our parks team and the Friends of Coalville Park community group, we have managed to retain our Green Flag status.

“This is a fantastic achievement. “We’re so pleased that the park has been recognised and we hope that this encourages more people to come and safely enjoy the park than ever before.”

Amy Shepherd, Secretary of the Friends of Coalville Park, said: “It is excellent news Coalville Park has managed to retain its Green Flag award and we want to thank everyone that has contributed and helped us achieve this. We’re looking forward to continuing our work and improving the park with better facilities so that more people can enjoy it.”
