Team up for Sprint Challenge
COUNTY OUTFIT TO CEMENT ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH PORSCHE
MULTIPLE Porsche Carrera Cup GB title-winning outfit Team Parker Racing will join the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB with a multi-car entry for the 2021 season.
The Leicestershire-based team has competed continuously in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB since its inception in 2003, when it won the inaugural championship title with Barry Horne, who is now team manager of the Porsche programme.
The team currently leads all three classes in the Carrera Cup, with Harry King, pictured, in Pro, Esmee Hawkey in Pro-Am, and Justin Sherwood in Am, and is optimistic of sealing at least one of those titles at Snetterton at the end of the month.
The Porsche Sprint Challenge GB was launched at the end of last season for the Porsche Cayman 718 GT4 Clubsport and is an integral part of Porsche’s Pyramid of Motorsport in the UK.
It is intended to bridge the gap for those competing in track days and club racing, and those racing the more powerful GT3 Cup cars used in the Carrera Cup.
In fact, Team Parker Racing already has its own driver progression programme in place, with former Caterham racer Justin Armstrong being the latest driver to move through the team’s ranks to make his debut in the Carrera Cup this season.
The entry into the Sprint Challenge GB will enable the team to further cement its strong relationship with the Porsche brand.
A calendar for 2021 has yet to be announced but it is anticipated it will again race across both the British GT Championship and British Touring Car Championship packages, offering a compelling commercial proposition for competitors and sponsors alike.
Team Parker Racing is already in discussions with drivers for the 2021 Porsche Sprint Challenge GB campaign and will make further announcements in due course.
Stuart Parker, team principal at Team Parker Racing, said: “We considered entering the series last year, but we decided to focus on our Carrera Cup efforts for this season.
“The fact that it races on the British GT and BTCC packages has meant we could keep an eye on it through our other racing programmes.
“This season has been disrupted due to Covid-19 so we have to take our hats off to the guys at Porsche. “To launch a new championship at such a turbulent time, and to see the grid numbers they’ve achieved has been impressive.
“We are already talking to potential drivers and I am looking forward to fielding a competitive entry next season.”
