PUBLIC health officials have revealed the parts of Leicester with the fastest-growing coronavirus infection rates, as they again urged people to stick to lockdown rules and maintain social distancing.

Director of public health Professor Ivan Browne said: “The virus is taking a hold in all areas of the city, with some of the fastest-growing infection rates in Clarendon Park, Braunstone, West End, Stocking Farm and Mowmacre, Aylestone and Eyres Monsell.

“The virus is spreading when people are meeting up with friends or family.

“They do not believe they are infectious and are passing it on without realising.

“I have to be clear – the situation in Leicester is serious.

“Hospital admissions are now higher than they were in April. Deaths are rising and our hospitals have cancelled some nonurgent operations.

“At this level we are also likely to go into a higher tier of restrictions when the national lockdown ends in December. I am very grateful for the sacrifices people have made this year to stop the spread, but we have to keep going.

“The only way to bring numbers down again is to change our behaviour.

“Stay at home as much as you can.

“Limit your contact with others. Do not have visitors into your home.

“Keep going to protect yourselves and those you love.”

Latest city council analysis shows there were 3,258 new virus infections in the city in the fortnight to Friday, November 13.

More than 1,200 of them were concentrated in 10 particular parts of the city, shown in the table above.
