Victory against Braga would be ‘good therapy’

FUCHS LOOKS AHEAD TO EUROPA LEAGUE

-

LEICESTER City’s trip to Braga will be “good therapy” for the squad after their defeat to Liverpool on Sunday night,” Christian Fuchs believes.

City have an immediate chance to put the 3-0 loss at Anfield behind them by securing qualification for the Europa League knockout stages, writes Jordan Blackwell.

Victory in Portugal could even see Brendan Rodgers’ side secure top spot in their pool with two fixtures to play, should results go their way.

A positive result would be the best tonic for a disappointing night on Merseyside.

“We always aim to win the next game,” said Fuchs, right. “Definitely, that’s our spirit, that’s our mentality.

“It’s just something where we need to learn from our mistakes. That’s what the defeat was down to.

“We have a very important game now on Thursday, where we try to give our best again.

“I mean, it’s one loss now. Okay, we’re not happy with it, definitely not.

“It’s not satisfying enough, the way we played, but there’s nothing for us to put our heads down.

“(It’s been a) great season so far and we will bounce back.

“Every game is a good therapy after a loss like that.

“So again, we keep our heads up and move forward.”

As for working out where it went wrong at Liverpool, Fuchs said a passiveness to the first half performance was City’s downfall.

“I would say in the first period we were too passive,” said the Austrian on what was his seventh straight start.

“(We were) defensively passive, didn’t get in contact with the opponent.

“Second half was much better. (We were) much braver and then as the game progressed, we were also creating chances.

“So, I think the result is down to the first half being too passive.

“(The own goal) was an unlucky start for us, but it didn’t define the game.

“Again, it’s about our own performance.

“We cannot be happy with the first half. But there’s a lesson we need to learn to improve for the next game.”

He added: “For me personally I’ve been very happy with my involvement this season and hope I can continue like that.”
