City site picked for diner
DRIVE-THROUGH WOULD BE NEAR SPORTS GROUNDS
MCDONALD’S is planning to open a drive-through restaurant near the King Power Stadium.
The two-storey restaurant is proposed for a car park off Almond Road.
Plans lodged with Leicester City Council said the restaurant, also close to Leicester Tigers’ Welford Road stadium, Morrisons and the Odeon cinema and Counting House pub, would be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
It is likely to create 65 full and parttime jobs if approved.
Agents for McDonald’s told planners: “Details have been provided on McDonald’s efforts to provide opportunities for skills and training through its internal management training programme.
“Staff are given the opportunity to gain naturally recognised qualifications in hospitality, literacy and numeracy.
“Sufficient parking has been provided at the restaurant with accessible parking located as close to the restaurant entrance as possible. McDonald’s encourages more sustainable methods of transport.”
The company’s agents said: “The site represents an appropriate location for a drive-through restaurant, which will be well placed to offer refreshments to passing customers and those in the surrounding area.”
The existing pay-and-display car park has 105 spaces and is operated by Euro Car Park.
A pedestrian access is proposed from Almond Road. Planning officers at the council are considering the proposals.
