A TEENAGER is in a critical condition after he was found stabbed on an estate.

The 19-year-old was discovered near an alleyway in Braunstone Frith, Leicester, on Wednesday.

Emergency services, including at least five police cars and several ambulances, were called to the scene, not far from Braunstone Frith Primary School, shortly before 6.30pm.

The area, by the junction of Cuffling Drive and Elsworthy Walk, remained cordoned off yesterday.

A police spokeswoman said: “We were called by East Midlands Ambulance Service at 6.25pm after a man was found stabbed at the junction of Elsworthy Walk and Cuffling Drive.

“Officers attended, and the man, aged 19, was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

“A scene preservation remained in place while inquiries were being carried out in the area.”

It is understood the injured man was airlifted to the Queen’s Medical Centre, in Nottingham.

Investigators said they would be speaking to residents in the area and would be looking to see whether CCTV footage could reveal any clues to the incident and those responsible.

Detective Inspector Mark Parish, from the Complex Crime Investigation team, said: “This young man sustained a serious stab wound and remains very poorly in hospital.

“We have a number of inquiries continuing into this incident and would be keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the assault or the events leading up to it.

“Anyone who may have seen something connected to what happened, perhaps people running from the scene, or knows the people responsible, we would be keen to speak to you so please urgently get in touch with us.” People living in the area have expressed shock and dismay at the attack. Posting on Facebook, one woman said: “I hope he is okay and will recover. Fingers crossed the person who committed this awful act is caught quickly.

“Very scary being so close to home.” Anyone with information is urged to call the police using the 101 number, or to get in touch through the force website.
