PLAYER RATINGS v LONDON IRISH

-

FREDDIE STEWARD: The 19-year-old has the assuredness of a veteran when under the high ball and took every single one of the bombs that Irish sent his way, bar one at the end of the game where he was arguably tackled in the air. The academy star also showed his threat with ball in hand, beating three defenders as well as displaying his siege-gun boot which helped Tigers gain field position. 8/10

KOBUS VAN WYK: An afternoon to forget for the South African. The winger deliberately knocked the ball into touch after 14 minutes which saw him sent to the bin. He struggled to redeem himself on his return, throwing a few loose passes before he was subbed with a groin injury with five minutes left of the first half. 4/10

JACO TAUTE: After looking rejuvenated last week, Taute had a very different game this time. A poor defensive read allowed Curtis Rona into a huge hole to get the only try of the game, but it’s hard to fully blame him for this. He had a brighter spell at the start of the second half with some strong carries but quietened off towards the end. 5/10

MATT SCOTT: The Scotsman had a busier game than usual in attack and helped get Tigers on the front foot in the second half with some dominant carries. He was his usual gritty self without the ball with some fantastic defensive reads as well as a great turnover on 46 minutes. 7/10

HARRY POTTER: The Australian winger didn’t get much of the ball, making just three carries but still gaining 33 metres and dropped one high ball after misreading where it was destined to land. 6/10

ZACK HENRY: Kicked the opening penalty to get Tigers on the board, but didn’t see much of the fly-half with the ball in hand. Caused a dog leg in the defensive line which led to Rona’s try, before being replaced at half time. 6/10

RICHARD WIGGLESWORTH: A typical performance from the scrumhalf with plenty of box-kicks and general-like control from the base of the ruck. Did well to chew time off the clock when Van Wyk was sent to the bin to not allow Irish to fully take advantage of the extra man. 6/10

RYAN BOWER: The loosehead was fantastic in the scrum last week but got dominated this time around by former Wallaby Sekope Kepu. 5/10

TOM YOUNGS: A solid performance from the skipper, without standing out. Some solid carries and tackles throughout. While his first line-out was underthrown, he was solid thereafter – which couldn’t be said for the man who replaced him. 6/10

DAN COLE: A strong performance in the loose with eight tackles and one turnover. Struggled a bit at scrumtime in the first half but turned it around after half-time. 6/10

HARRY WELLS: Was his usual annoying self in defence, spoiling rucks and also making a team-high of 13 tackles. Five more than any other player. 7/10

CALUM GREEN: A few lost line-outs at key moments prevented Tigers from building a platform for attack, but a solid performance. 6/10

HANRO LIEBENBERG: An impressive 30-metre carry in the first half was the standout moment for Liebenberg and the South African continued to make yards (54) throughout the game. 7/10

CYLE BRINK: It’s clear that Brink is a fantastic defensive player and was constantly a threat at the breakdown, but seemed to lack a bit of oomph in the carry and was inevitably replaced by Jordan Taufua at half-time. 6/10

JASPER WIESE: Gave away two penalties in the first ten minutes, but once he settled he was back to his best and got Tigers over the gain line with some bruising runs. Made the joint most metres in the game along with Rona for the Exiles (62). 7/10
