Fine at Bradgate ‘because parking ticket was not sticky enough’

VISITOR GIVEN PENALTY AFTER GLUE FAILED ON A HUMID DAY

A BRADGATE Park visitor says he got a fine because the glue on the back of the parking ticket he bought was not strong enough to keep it stuck to his windscreen.

Jordan Langley paid £3 to park at the beauty spot and carefully peeled back the adhesive label on his ticket so he could attach it where wardens would see it.

However, when the 21-year-old returned to his car, in the Newtown Linford car park, two hours later, he found a £55 penalty charge on the outside of his windscreen and his ticket face down on his dashboard.

Jordan, from Abbey Lane in Leicester, said: “I was pretty annoyed.

“I’d driven around for 15 minutes looking for a space because it was a bit of a nightmare.

“I got one eventually and I bought a ticket.

“I peeled back the adhesive stick label and attached it to the windscreen.

“It was fine. It was visible. But it fell off.

“It was a cold morning and humid in the car.

“The parking company tells you to use the adhesive on the tickets. I did that, but it wasn’t sticky enough.

“I’ve spoken to friends and family about this and someone I know takes his own tape to stick the tickets up because he doesn’t trust the adhesive.”

Jordan said he contacted Spring Parking, the company used by Bradgate Park to manage its car parks, after getting the fine on Monday and was told he should pay or take the matter to court.

He said: “I’ve got the ticket with a serial number and my reg on it so they know I paid. They were not interested.

“I could have taken them on but

they’re a big company and it’s just me, so I’ve paid it grudgingly.

“I didn’t want to risk it going up to £95 or more and having debt collectors knocking on the door.

“I just think they could have been reasonable about it because they know I paid.”

The Mercury has recently reported a number of other cases where flipped tickets have led to fines been issued to park visitors.

Spring Parking has stressed the people must both pay for and then correctly display their tickets.

The company said the fines are issued to people who do not do the latter – in the same way as they are in any other pay-and-display car park in the country.

It said people had the right to use the Parking On Private Land Appeals service, if they chose to.

Jordan said: “They could sort this out dead easily by just having a payon-exit system with a barrier that lifts when you leave after you’ve paid.

“That would be fairer.”
