I flopped at the Foxes because I was too nice, claims Kapustka
BARTOSZ Kapustka’s Leicester City career did not go to plan because he was “too nice”, the Polish winger believes.
Kapustka left City in the summer after making just three senior appearances in four seasons with the club, failing to live up to the hype that accompanied his move from Cracovia, following his promising displays as a teenager at Euro 2016.
Now back in his homeland with Legia Warsaw, Kapustka has been reflecting on where it went wrong at the King Power Stadium, and he believes he may have been too focused on being polite, rather than furthering his own career.
“It’s not easy abroad, especially when you don’t have a loved one around you,” he told Po Gwizdku.
“Here in Warsaw it is much better in this respect.
“I never regretted it. I say this with full awareness. It was a dream come true.
“Maybe I was focusing too much on being nice to everyone.
“I definitely should be more selfish and just think about my career.
“Maybe because I was trying to be fair to everyone, maybe I was too humble.
“It seems to me that the best footballers in the world do not have much of this humility, because they know what they can do.”
Since returning to Poland,
Kapustka’s career has taken a turn for the better.
He has played 13 games in all competitions, started Legia’s last four in the Ekstraklasa, and scored his first goal at the end of November.
But he had other options when he left City.
“I didn’t have to come back to Poland,” he said.
“I could have chosen a different direction.
“There were options from the Netherlands or the USA.
“However, I do not know what would come out of it, because I decided quite early that if I could get along with Legia, I wanted to go to this club.”
