AYOZE Perez was not only delighted to be back in the Leicester City side and scoring goals, but to be playing in a role where he thrives.

The Spaniard made his first start in 11 City games at Sheffield United on Sunday, netting the opener as Brendan Rodgers’ side recorded their first win in five.

For the majority of his first season at City, Perez was stationed on the right wing.

But at Bramall Lane, he played centrally, just behind Jamie Vardy, and was one of City’s best performers, not only scoring his first goal of the season, but creating a handful of chances too.

It is a position where he feels his best attributes are on show.

“Obviously, scoring a goal, it’s a great feeling,” Perez, right, told LCFC TV. “It gives you a lot of confidence.

“In that position, in that role, I knew I was going to have a chance and I had to take it, so it’s an unbelievable feeling to be able to score again, to be back in the team and doing what I like the most.

“We played a different system than we’ve been playing recently.

“(I felt) very well in that position, very comfortable up front with Vards, dropping underneath a little bit, to link up with the midfielders and Madders.

“So, yes, I feel very comfortable in those positions, more central, closer to the box and always getting in there.

“That’s what I’m very good at, and always creating chances.” The Spaniard had been withdrawn by the time Vardy scored the late winner, and those on the bench did not doubt that City’s number nine would raced clear and find the net.

“It’s a very important three points after a couple of defeats, the team showed we are mentally strong to bounce back and get a win over here, it’s always tough,” he said.

“He (Vardy) has demonstrated that he’s always switched on. He’s always in the game. That’s something that’s very important. “Obviously, he’s waited for his chance. “That’s why he’s one of the best strikers in Europe. He’s always switched on. “The chance came and he scored the winner.” always
