Co-op’s running total for charity boosted as staff clock up 50 miles each
FIVE colleagues from Central England Co-op swapped their work boots for running shoes to help raise over £2,300 for charity.
The team – store managers Sally Smith (Quorn), Michelle Ward (Newbold Verdon) Donna Rood (Kibworth) and Helen Clarke (Clifton South Church Drive, in Leicester) and also Amelia Daly, team leader at Kibworth – joined forces to take part in the special challenge to jog 50 miles and help raise funds for the Co-op’s corporate charity, Dementia UK
Sally, who did the run alongside her dog Alfie, said: “We are all relatively new to running and thought it was a good way to stay focused with our running while raising money and awareness for our corporate charity.
“This was especially important as this year we have not been able to do as much fundraising as we all usually would in our stores.
“Michelle also dedicated her run to John Blackery, a customer and a member of Newbold Dementia club.
“We all completed the challenge outside due to gyms being closed during lockdown and myself, Donna and Michelle all left the last three miles so we could complete the challenge together at Thornton Reservoir.
“We just want to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us and helped this amazing good cause.”
Central England Co-operative has over 400 trading outlets across 16 counties.
It invests a percentage of its trading profits into local communities through its Community Dividend Fund scheme, and has donated more than £1.3 million to our corporate charity partner Dementia UK.
Its charitable work also includes operating a pioneering food redistribution partnership with FareShare Midlands so unsold food goes to those in need.
