PEOPLE in a Leicester street may get a more peaceful Christmas after a noisy neighbour had his stereo and speakers seized.

Police and council officials executed a warrant in Ashthorpe Road, Braunstone, after repeated complaints about loud bass-heavy music booming out.

Complaints were first made in October, resulting in Leicester City Council writing to the householder to request the noise be kept down.

However, the volume continued to be ramped up and four more incidents of noise nuisance took place during October and November.

Last week, Leicester Magistrates’ Court granted the council’s noise and pollution control team a warrant to enter the house and remove the equipment involved.

The seizure was carried out on Thursday with the help of Leicestershire Police. In all, three items of equipment, including a music system and two speakers, were confiscated.

By law, the tenant can retrieve the equipment after a month, paying the costs incurred during the seizure to do so.

Further reports of noise nuisance could mean further seizures of equipment from the property.

Councillor Kirk Master, assistant city mayor for neighbourhood services, said: “The noise nuisances took place during a time of coronavirus restrictions when residents were spending more time than usual at home, and unable to escape the noise.

“The seizure of his equipment was only necessary because the tenant failed to respond to any of our previous attempts to resolve the problem.”
