Police in witness plea after running battles involving city youths

SEVEN teenagers have been arrested after a fight between people allegedly wielding knives broke out in Leicester.

Police have said the incident close to the Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College campus on Saturday night involved a “large number group of youths running through the area.”

The seven people arrested in the incident are all aged 16, 17 and 18, said a police spokespers­on.

They have all now been released on police bail while further investigat­ions are carried out.

The force spokespers­on added: “Officers are appealing for witnesses after a report of a fight involving a number of youths in Leicester on Saturday evening.

“The incident was reported to have taken place between 9pm and 11pm when a number of youths were reported to be in the area of Regent Road, De Montfort Street and Princess Road East who were in possession of weapons – believed to be knives and a metal pole.

“It was reported the youths had been fighting in the area.”

No injuries have been reported. Pc Russell Finlay, who is leading the investigat­ion into the armed brawl, would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident.

“The incident involved a large group of youths running through the area who were reported to be in possession of weapons,” he said.

“We are asking anyone who was in the area at the time and who has any informatio­n to contact us.”

Pc Finlay added: “We are very keen to speak to anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage that may have captured the incident.”

Anyone with informatio­n should contact the police using the 101 number.
