JAMIE Vardy jokingly admitted he’s “getting old” after withdrawing with a hip problem at the end of Leicester City’s 2-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday.

Vardy scored his 13th of the season from the penalty spot before heading against Toby Alderweireld to force the own goal that secured the win in north London.

But he had to come off for the final few minutes after his long-standing hip issue flared up.

City’s number nine turns 34 next month but while his age, and how long he has left at the top, has been a hot topic for years, he has previously said his legs still feel young and that he is “not as old as I am on paper”.

But after leaving the pitch with a slight injury, Vardy did finally suggest he’s getting on, while also allaying fears over his injury.

Asked if he was okay following the substitution, Vardy told Sky Sports: “Yeah, I’m getting old, aren’t I?

“It’s just a little tweak. It’s better to come off than risk anything. It’s absolutely fine.”

Vardy helped seal a sixth away Premier League win already for City, one off their tally for the whole of last season.

But for the City talisman, that means they’re not getting it right at home, rather than doing something well on the road.

“It obviously shows we’re doing something wrong in the home games though,” Vardy said.

“We need to get these performances week in, week out, get the consistency going, and hopefully pick up more wins.

“We train the same, prepare the same, but come game day it’s not been working at home.

“But I’m sure it’s something we’ll put right.”

Vardy added: “We came here with a game plan and we nailed what we wanted to do and it set us on the way to get us the three points we feel we deserved.

“We wanted to get about them. We didn’t want to give them too much time.

“As soon as they got towards the halfway line we knew we could put the press on, get the ball back, keep it, find the spaces, and create some chances.”
