INTRUDERS CUT THROUGH PADLOCK TO TAKE CHOW CHOW BETSY

A COUPLE are devastated after thieves stole their pet dog.

Betsy, a chow chow aged two-anda-half, was taken from Rachel and Kieran Wade’s garden in Barnards Way, Kibworth Harcourt, at about 8.50pm on Saturday.

“It’s heartbreaking,” said Rachel, a 28-year-old teacher. “We don’t have children, so she is our child, our baby.

“She is quite a nervous dog anyway, so this will be awful for her.”

The thieves cut a padlock on a gate to steal the dog, which the couple have had since she was six months old, after getting her from Dogs Trust Loughborough.

“My husband had put Betsy out in the garden after her walk because that’s where she likes to do her business,” said Rachel.

“I had been out shopping and when I came home I opened the back door for her to come in.

“She was not in the garden and the back gate was open. The padlock must have been cut off and taken away.

“I think someone must have been watching the house as she was only out there between 8.45pm and 8.55pm. That is small window of opportunity.”

Rachel said they got Betsy from the Dogs Trust two years ago.

“We went there because we wanted to rescue a dog,” she said. “We saw a photo of Betsy when we got there and asked to see her.

“They were not sure as she was very nervous and did not take to people.

“But when she saw us she ran up to us and jumped up and was all over us.

“It was love at first sight for us. She has long blonde hair, like me, so it was fate.

“She was even born on the same day as me – June 14 – so we are meant to be together.

“She had been smuggled into this country from Lithuania and was confiscated and then sent to the

Dogs Trust to be rehomed. She has been through a lot and we love her dearly and are desperate to get her back.”

A police spokesman said: “Officers received a report of the theft of a dog from a property in Barnards Way, Kibworth between 8.45pm and 8.55pm on Saturday.

“The dog, is a two-year-old female chow chow with a sandy-blonde fluffy coat and has been microchipped.

“It is reported to have been stolen from the back garden of the property.”

Anyone with any information should contact police on 101.
