Women to make Belvoir Drive their new base

-

LEICESTER City are leaving for a new training ground and simultaneously staying at Belvoir Drive – the club’s women’s team will make the historic training centre their new permanent base.

City’s men set-up start at Seagrave tomorrow while City Women, who have been working at Belvoir Drive a few days a week after going professional this summer, will take full control of the original training ground.

Belvoir Drive has been the men’s team’s home since 1964, and now City Women, who top the Championship table at Christmas, will carry on the legacy.

“There is obviously sadness when you leave your current training facility,” said Rodgers. “There are people here that have been here for so many years.

“We have been here since 1964 so 56 years at one training facility where so many great players and managers have gone through, so that will always be remembered and the great legacy will be that the women’s team will come in here, so they have got a fantastic facility to come and work in.”

Club chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said: “Belvoir Drive has served the club wonderfully and been a spiritual home for Leicester City teams through several generations.

“For it to become the home of LCFC Women is a fine legacy for an historic location.”

City Women were taken over by King Power in the summer, when they turned professional, with greater investment allowing them to build their squad for the current campaign.

They stayed top of the Championship after a 3-2 win over Blackburn at the weekend, their fifth straight victory.
