PLAYER RATINGS

-

KASPER SCHMEICHEL: Made a sublime stop to deny Rashford in the second half, needing a really strong hand to keep out the one-on-one. Could do little about the goals, and had nothing to do beyond that, but two poorly-made passes nearly put City in trouble. 6/10

JAMES JUSTIN: More unfortunate than at fault for Rashford’s opener, but maybe should have tracked Fernandes for the second. Otherwise timed his tackles excellently, used his pace well in defence and attack, got forward with confidence, and crossed dangerously. 8/10

WESLEY FOFANA: Made several perfectly-timed interventions to halt United counter-attacks, including one vital tackle on James. He was composed on the ball too, and made good decisions on when to press. 8/10

JONNY EVANS: Not as strong as his defensive partner, but not under-par either. He read the game well to shut down attacks, but his passing out from the back was sometimes aimless. 6/10

TIMOTHY CASTAGNE: Effective early on with his gallops down the wing beyond Barnes, but grew more quiet as the game continued. Linked play well, particularly with Tielemans. 6/10

WILFRED NDIDI: Unlike at Spurs, he did not give the impression there were two of him on the pitch. But he still made welltimed tackles and interceptions. Was bypassed a little in the second half. 6/10

YOURI TIELEMANS: The best player on the pitch in the first half as he escaped pressure with tidy, intelligent footwork, while he played countless good forward balls too, all while ordering his team-mates around. Played with a smile on his face and it showed. Not quite as accurate in the second period. 8/10

MARC ALBRIGHTON: Did more good work in defence than attack, helping Justin out with Rashford, Fernandes and Shaw, but failing to beat the latter all that often in the final third. His crosses did not regularly find their man either. 5/10

JAMES MADDISON: Not his day. His passes into Vardy were picked off or overhit, while he found it difficult to find space with McTominay and Fred paying attention to his every move. 5/10

HARVEY BARNES: A rare goal from range from the winger, but it was an excellent strike. Looked dangerous on the ball when he was able to build up some speed, but not everything came off, with a few passes going astray to end good moves. 8/10

JAMIE VARDY: Popped up in the right place when he was needed to ensure City took a point. Was quiet other than that, playing some tidy passes when he did get involved, but generally marshalled well by Bailly. 7/10

SUBSTITUTE

AYOZE PEREZ: Brought on to make a difference and he did just that, fizzing a cross over for Vardy’s equaliser. 7/10
