TWO men were treated for smoke inhalation after a fire gutted a bedroom at a house in Leicester.

One man was also treated for superficial burns after the blaze at the two-storey house in Blue Gates Road, in Beaumont Leys, on Wednesday.

The occupants of the house called the fire service at 6.15pm and got out of the building.

The bedroom was well alight and the blaze had spread to the roof when the fire service arrived.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the house to tackle the blaze.

The two casualties were treated at the scene by the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

It is not known if they were taken to hospital.

The blaze gutted the bedroom and left the rest of the house with 50 per cent smoke and water damage.

The occupants were told the damage was so severe that they needed to spend the night with relatives.

A Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “A call was received from the occupants of a property in Blue Gates Road, saying that the bedroom was on fire.

“Initially two fire engines were sent to deal with the incident. However, during the call the decision was made to mobilise a third.

“Once in attendance the first crew on scene put in an assistance message for a fourth fire engine due to how developed the fire was.

“The fire had spread to the roof of the property. There were two casualties with smoke inhalation, it was confirmed during the emergency call that everybody was out of the property before the fire service were in attendance.

“The two casualties were treated at the scene by EMAS. Both were suffering from smoke inhalation and one also had superficial burns.”

She said the blaze was believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

Fire crews from Birstall, Central, Loughborough and Coalville attended the incident.
