Safety advice offered after fatal flat blaze
FIREFIGHTERS RETURN TO THE SCENE OF TRAGIC ACCIDENT IN THE CITY
FIREFIGHTERS have revealed a fatal blaze at a flat in Leicester was an tragic accident.
A man died in the fire at the flat in Oak Road on Tuesday.
The fire service has confirmed the cause of the fire was accidental and said crews returned to the area yesterday to offer safety advice to other residents.
A spokesman said: “At 9.19pm, we attended the fire in the ground floor flat.
“Crews from Eastern and Central fire stations attended, along with East Midlands Ambulance Service.
“Crews gained access to the flat, and one casualty was removed. CPR was administered, but the casualty sadly passed away shortly after.
“The cause of the fire was determined as accidental.
“This is a terrible tragedy, and the thoughts of the fire service are with the family, friends and acquaintances of the deceased. We are providing reassurance and advice on home fire safety in order to prevent any similar incidents occurring in the future. “Crews were in the area yesterday sharing home fire safety advice. “All Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service employees carry identification cards, which they are more than happy to show you.
“If someone approaches your home posing as an employee of Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, and is unwilling or unable to show you identification, do not let them in and report them to police.
“We would advise that you have a minimum of one working smoke alarm on each level of your home, and recommend you test these on a monthly basis.
“Keep escape routes clear, and ensure that a fire escape plan is discussed within your household.”
