Inching towards safety from killer coronavirus

-

THIS afternoon, my son drove me to an appointment for a Covid-19 vaccination event.

We had had a telephone call which invited us to attend at 2.40pm at the Old School Surgery, in Kibworth.

We arrived in good time, only to find the roads around the surgery full of cars parked bumper to bumper. There was a very small car park in which, after someone else kindly pulled out and reparked, there was space for ours.

We then crossed the narrow road and joined the line of elderly men and women, where we had to wait and slowly inch forward. It was very cold, but at least for us the sky was blue.

I think it took about an hour for us to slowly advance. We hoped that every time we turned a corner we would see the way in, but no. There was an old man in front of us who was 100 years old, I think. I am 85.

At last we walked down a very narrow passageway, only wide enough for single file, until at last we entered the building.

Suddenly, it was a surgery! Lights, white walls and staff in uniform – bright lights!

After a quick query about my health etc I had a jab, then it was move to another area, wait five minutes, and if no problem we could go.

Outside, there was a man in uniform who thought that about 200 people had been expected.

As we turned back up the road to collect our car, the line of the old was still inching slowly forwards...

This is not that Health Service which I and others have fought for over many long years.
