Marcin’s a star for all his good work helping others

-

AN Amazon worker in Kegworth has been named one of the company’s Covid community heroes.

Marcin Jeznach, pictured, was awarded with an Amazon Star award for his volunteering with the homeless, his support for poor families and for the work he does in honour of soldiers who died in the First and Second World Wars.

He co-ordinates meals for homeless people in Leicester, organising logistics and contacting suppliers.

He also arranges donations of clothes for Polish children who are from low-income families and in his leftover spare time he cleans the graves of soldiers to ensure their memory is properly honoured.

Marcin said: “I can’t believe I’ve won an Amazon Star award. It’s such a lovely surprise.

“I don’t do my voluntary work for any praise or recognition but it’s nice to know your efforts are appreciated by your colleagues.

“I’m so passionate about restoring war graves because I think it’s important to honour the memory of the men and women who died during the wars.

“I’ve had a lifelong interest in history because of a family connection to the wars and this voluntary work is something I hope to continue for many years.”

Celia Syme, site leader at Amazon in Kegworth, said: “Marcin is an inspiration to us all and we’re all really proud of his voluntary work in our community during Covid-19 and beyond.

“It’s fantastic to have one of the Amazon Star winners here in Kegworth and I’d like to congratulate Marcin on his very well-deserved award.”

We launched our Covid Heroes features in conjunction with Amazon to recognise the local people and organisations who have helped others get through the difficulties of 2020.

As well as the obvious increase in medical needs caused by the ongoing pandemic, Covid-19 has led to many people losing their jobs, many others being furloughed and having their wages cut while others have been suffering increased anxiety due to the threat of the disease.
