Man found badly injured in flat after being stabbed in street
VICTIM IN STABLE CONDITION AFTER NEW YEAR’S DAY ATTACK
A MAN is in a stable condition in hospital after he was stabbed in the street in Loughborough on New Year’s Day.
The condition of the man, who is in his 30s, has improved after he was admitted to hospital on Friday with life-threatening injuries.
The man, who is from Loughborough, was found injured in a flat in Cordell Road, close to where the attack took place.
The area was still cordoned off yesterday, with officers there to preserve the scene.
It is believed a detailed examination of the flat has been carried out by a police forensic team.
Detectives have been carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area.
A resident, who did not want to be named, said: “There is big police presence here.
“I saw the forensic officer swabbing the outside of the windows on one of the flats.
“There have been plain-clothes detectives knocking on people’s doors asking questions.
“We hope the injured man is okay.”
A police spokeswoman said: “Officers were called at about 4.45pm on January 1 to a report that a man had stabbed.
“The man was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.”
Police said the man’s condition has improved and he is now reported to be “stable”.
Detective Inspector Chris Brett, who is overseeing the investigation, is appealing for anyone who may have information about what happened to contact police.
He said: “This man has sustained some very serious injuries and is currently in hospital receiving treatment.
“We are treating this as an isolated incident and it’s important we build up a complete picture of the events leading up to this man being injured and establish exactly what happened.
“I would therefore urge anyone who has any information about this assault to get in touch.
“Maybe you saw someone or a group of people leave the flat in a hurry and can provide a description of them or the direction they went?
“Or perhaps you suspect who may be responsible?
“Any information you have could assist our investigation, especially at this early stage, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”
