LEICESTER City midfielder Youri Tielemans has said that City are not getting “carried away” after the win against Newcastle, writes Amie Wilson.

The Belgian scored what turned out to be the winning goal at St James’ Park, the 2-1 victory taking them to third place in the table, just one point behind Liverpool and Manchester United.

That position has prompted talk about the Foxes being genuine contenders for the Premier League title this season.

But speaking after the game, Tielemans insisted the players are not really thinking too far ahead.

“We will see at the end of the season but we have to take it game by game and not get carried away. It was an important win,” he told The Guardian.

City looked to be cruising towards all three points in the game after Tielemans lashed home Marc Albrighton’s cross in the 72nd minute, but Andy Carroll’s goal with just eight minutes to play made it a nervy ending.

“When we got the goal against us, we started panicking and stopped playing really,” said Tielemans.

“In general, we played well and the win is the most important thing.

“Especially in the final third we had to be very patient. We did well at times but we could have done better.

“They kept very compact and they did well. I am very pleased.

“We had a whole week to practice so it was a lucky day for us.“

Tielemans has been a key player for Leicester so far this season, playing in every Premier League game, and scoring four goals.
