HOW TO MAKE A ROAR-SOME LION ROSETTE

-

DO YOU like to pounce like a cat, flip like a fish or leap like a flea?

When you’ve mastered moving like your favourite animal, why not make a rosette to celebrate?

YOU WILL NEED

Thin card

Felt

Gold/yellow ribbons in different widths and textures Strong glue

Tape

Scissors

A brooch fastening for the back

METHOD

1. Draw two circles the same size (about 8cm) and one slightly smaller (about 6cm) on your thin card. If it helps, draw around circular things, such as mugs or jars.

2. Wind your different ribbons around one of the large circles, tucking the ends in as you go.

3. Secure each ribbon with glue or tape as you go, if you wish. Make sure you don’t wind them too tightly.

4. Glue the small circle of card in the centre of the front of your rosette (see picture bottom left).

5. When dry, slide your scissors in at the very edge of the large circle and snip each ribbon loop.

6. The large circle will eventually come loose when you are nearly finished and will need to be glued in place when all the ribbons are cut.

7. Take some coloured felt and cut a shape to make a lion’s face. Make sure it is large enough to cover the small cardboard circle and glue it in place. Cut more shapes to make features and glue those on.

8. Cut two lengths of ribbon to make the rosette ribbon and glue it on the back of your rosette so it hangs down underneath. Glue the remaining large circle on the back and attach the brooch pin (see bottom right). You will need strong glue for this.

9. When it’s dry, you can wear your lion rosette with pride.
