City have players that can really excite you, says Neville

LEICESTER City now have more strings to their bow than being a purely counter-attacking team under Brendan Rodgers, according to Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville, left.

The Foxes have found success in the counter-attack in this and past seasons, but have had to adapt to a slightly different style since their title-winning season of 2015/16.

City won 2-1 at Newcastle United on Sunday, with the Magpies set up to frustrate Rodgers’ side, although both goals did come from a breakout from defence. The result lifted Leicester into third place in the Premier League table, just a point off leaders Liverpool and second-placed Manchester United.

City found themselves in a similar position last year before falling away in the second half of the campaign and missing out on a Champions League position.

“[They] seem to be set up to repeat what they did last season,”

Neville said on the Gary Neville Podcast.

“They’ll just hope that if they can get in amongst those Champions League spaces that they can finish it off this time, they obviously just fell away at the end of last season.

“But, really good, Brendan Rodgers has done a fantastic job and continues to do so, they look confident. Vardy is good, Tielemans has scored the goal, it’s a fantastic goal.

“They’ve still got an element of counter-attack about them but if you think about how they were a few years ago when it was pure counterattack, it was that or nothing, it’s different now, they’ve got football players in their team that can really excite you.

“Tielemans and Harvey Barnes I like watching. Even Albrighton on the right-hand side, he was the one who played the pass in for Tielemans’ goal. The quality is there.”
